"Prosperity for all" - this has been the credo of German politics since Ludwig Erhard. However, Germany has failed to achieve this ideal: Few industrialized countries experience such high inequality in terms of income, wealth, and opportunities. Investments are declining, dependence on the state is increasing, and social participation is decreasing. The struggle for distribution is becoming more intense. The primary reason for this is the high inequality of opportunity, which prevents people from developing their abilities. Fratzscher demonstrates how politics can take advantage of the opportunity presented by the wave of immigration and what must be done to avert the division of society.
