This study provides the first comprehensive and critical overview of the history of psychiatry in Graubünden from its beginnings in the 19th century to the present day. What has changed over time, and where are the continuities? What role did coercive measures and placements play? How should medication tests on patients prior to the introduction of today's testing procedures be assessed? The investigation connects to current debates in recent psychiatric history and presents them in detail, as the period from the 1960s to the present has hardly been studied. Various perspectives are included, including those of nursing staff as well as patients. Selected close-ups of individuals and institutional economics offer a deeper insight into the inner workings of psychiatric institutions and clinics.
