"All that beautiful layout!" - Since 1960, one element of literature, namely its promotional paratext, has increasingly come onto the scene. What does it mean for the relationship between literary work and packaging accessories when authors expand their scope to include the design of covers, book jackets and layout? Ronald Röttel shows how literature in the second half of the 20th century gained an interest in the aesthetics of its packaging and surface by engaging with everyday consumer aesthetics, pop art and pop-cultural typography in magazines. To this end, he analyses psychedelic typography, pirated punk typography or the >smooth< New Wave layouts, among other things - and thus provides an insight into a little-explored field of media aesthetics.
