The night sky displays, alongside the brilliant wonders of the stars, dull shimmering patches of nebulae, either remnants of old, extinct systems scattered throughout the cosmos, or newly forming cosmic dust around a core, or a state between destruction and reformation. Empirical aesthetics (theory of silence) is not merely pure aesthetics or an abstract theory of beauty. The latter considers form as such; for it, beauty is the interplay of individual forms resulting in a total effect that satisfies and delights our artistic sense. All aesthetic properties of formal beauty are therefore also of a collective nature, such as harmony, eurhythmics, proportion, symmetry, and so on. In contrast, the theory of silence comprehensively understands beauty as a product or result, not as a sum or series. It seeks the components of form that are not forms themselves, but rather idea, force, material, and means.
