Product details
Violence is the central theme of all three pieces gathered here: the contradictory aspects of the relationship between perpetrator and victim, the ambivalence of good and evil. "Olga's Room" is based on the life story of the German-Jewish communist Olga Benario, who was arrested in Brazil in 1936, extradited to Germany, and murdered in the Ravensbrück concentration camp six years later. "Olga's Room" serves as both her prison cell and a place of remembrance, where she reflects on the stages of her life. "A provocative exploration of what drives people to inflict violence on others." (Die Welt) "Tattoo" deals with sexual abuse within a family, the indelible marks that violence leaves on the body and soul of the daughter. Even her escape from the family cannot put an end to the tattooed horror—distrust and fear destroy the daughter's attempt to start a new life. "Not a word is superfluous in the play. The text is sparse, dark, and straightforward." (die tageszeitung) "Leviathan" is a play about the beginnings of the Red Army Faction. The main character has a real-life counterpart: Ulrike "Marie" Meinhof. After a failed prison break, she faces the decision to go underground with the others or turn herself in to the police. "The dense, rhythmic language carries the weight of tragedy. In an open dramaturgy, Marie's conflict deepens into an existential question for a woman whose decision arises from insight and despair, clarity and harshness." (FAZ).
