Verhaltensorientierte Arbeitssicherheit - Behavior Based Safety (BBS)

In industrialized countries, a steady decline in workplace accident rates has been observed over the past few decades. This can primarily be attributed to improvements in safety technology and better regulation of work processes with regard to occupational safety. Nevertheless, even in technically well-equipped companies, accidents continue to occur due to inappropriate behavior by employees. Most companies respond to these behavior-related accidents with a mix of instruction and sanctions. Employees who engage in risky behavior are reminded of the regulations and, in the case of repeat offenses, may be warned or even dismissed. Despite this, the proportion of behavior-related workplace accidents has remained between 70 and 90% depending on the industry for years. Behavior-based safety (or BBS for short) is an approach aimed at improving employee behavior and thereby increasing safety in the workplace.
