Social inequalities attract public attention, but mostly in the form of discussions about aggregated distributions and striking overall descriptions of society. What remains hidden in these cases are the necessary institutional interfaces and social processes through which these inequalities are first produced and reproduced. Social change, too, often first becomes apparent in these micro-processes of social life.
