Product details

Andrei S. Markovits, born as the child of Romanian Holocaust survivors, has significantly shaped political and academic debates in Germany for decades. In the 1980s, the American political scientist dissected German trade unions and their structural sexism; in the 1990s, he predicted "Green beats Red," and after September 11, 2001, he was one of the key voices highlighting the connection between anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism. Markovits's unique approach is also evident in fields such as sports and animal welfare, where he uses the transatlantic comparison as a social science contrast. This volume brings together contributions from academic and political companions—Ruth Hatlapa, Hans-Otto Hemmer, Ulf Liebe, Benedikt Jahnke, Stephen Milder, Lars Rensmann, Sascha Spoun, and the editors—and presents the thematic focuses of Markovits's work. Additionally, it includes several previously unpublished original contributions by Andrei S. Markovits in Germany, as well as an interview with him.
