Kalanag

Helmut Schreiber (1903-1963), who performed under the name "Kanalag" since the 1920s, not only mingled with the greats of film and the magic world but also with figures from the Nazi regime. Several performances before Hitler at the Obersalzberg were the highlights of his career as a magician. Additionally, Schreiber had taken control of film production and worked as a production manager in Munich around 1923, where he encountered Alfred Hitchcock, among others. In Berlin, he maintained close contact with Jewish film producers and artists and rose to the position of production manager during the early sound film era. His former friend, Max Heilbronner, had already fled Germany, and the joint production company now belonged to Schreiber. One of his last Berlin productions was the antisemitic musical "Robert und Bertram" in 1939, after which he became the head of production at Bavaria in Munich in 1942.
