Alpenglow 2011

"I don't want to be in the cinephile ivory tower at all," director Siegfried Rothemund was sure of that in 1974. His wish came true. To this day, he continues to make film after film, experimenting with all forms and formats, working in both cinema and television, directing children's films, historical dramas, literary adaptations, and above all, crime and action series. His works have always been successful, yet hardly any reference book knows his name. The films he made under the pseudonym Siggi Götz, however, attracted magnificent audience numbers. As Siggi Götz, he made films solely for the money. In the 1970s, he was responsible for several box office hits in the genre of musical and sex films, which coincided with both the heyday of the New German Cinema and the era of pornography legalization. Götz repeatedly dedicated himself to the principles of the Lederhosen comedy between "Alpenglühn im Dirndlrock" and "Piratensender Powerplay," altering them dozens of times, while also wanting to create "real cinema," yet with "Es war nicht die Nachtigall," he was misunderstood once again.
