The security of the second layer is very important for the entire local network. LANs or VLANs face issues when attackers can compromise one of the hosts in the same VLAN or LAN. In such cases, all hosts in the same network are at risk. Sometimes, layer two of the OSI model has a security problem, especially in a DMZ environment, because the DMZ only protects layer three, which filters incoming and outgoing traffic. Additionally, when using a firewall to protect layer two, it cannot filter local traffic within a VLAN; local traffic in a subnet does not pass through the upper layer or the firewall. To address this issue with second layer security, a private VLAN is the best choice to filter local traffic and isolate hosts in the sales VLAN.
