Scar formation and contractures of the foot and ankle joints following deep partial and full-thickness burns impair foot movement and the function of the lower extremities, often necessitating surgical reconstruction. Long-term outcomes indicate that careful monitoring of burn patients is crucial for identifying developing scars that could benefit from early intervention or for tracking the slow growth of the injured extremity, which can cause secondary changes to bones and joints. Our experience suggests that surgical intervention should be considered before severe scarring develops to prevent secondary changes. In cases of severe contractures, early surgical intervention is recommended. The success of treating burn-related foot and ankle deformities depends on the location of the scar contractures, the depth of the injury, the availability of uninjured skin for reconstruction, and the presence of bony injuries or changes due to chronic scar contractures. This monograph provides insights into optimizing surgical outcomes for burn-related foot deformities and is aimed at medical students, surgical specialists, residents, and practicing surgeons.
