The characteristic orientation towards an open future in modern societies is closely linked to economic forms of subjectivation and power relations. Johann Szews addresses the ambivalent nature of this modern economy of time. He initially examines – starting from the concept of indebtedness – the relationship between time, economy, and power in Nietzsche's Genealogy of Morals. With Foucault, it is then demonstrated that the economic regime of time not only has a repressive function but also contains a liberating element. Based on this, the study ultimately conducts a critical inquiry into neoliberal time regimes.
