Private label manufacturers find themselves in a very complex situation: the market power of retail companies in Europe is growing, as is the pressure on prices, delivery times, and the quality of suppliers. A wide variety of products at low prices without long-term secure sales planning: this combination often turns production planning in the affected companies into a glimpse into a crystal ball. Using the example of a private label manufacturer from the chemical industry, the author demonstrates in five steps how this problem can be solved with the use of the ERP software SAP R/3: 1. Description of the problem and positioning of the example company within its environment 2. Analysis of the production process to be planned 3. Overview of the possibilities for production planning in SAP R/3 4. Selection of an appropriate project management method 5. Project execution using the 'DMAIC' cycle from Six Sigma and with the help of the process analysis software Sycat.
