Mar"ja Ivanovna Pokrovskaja

Mar ja Ivanovna Pokrovskaja was a well-known Russian doctor, hygienist, and feminist in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who made a name for herself through her tireless social and health policy engagement. She published numerous scientific studies on hygiene topics, advocated for the abolition of prostitution, and from 1904 to 1917, she published a feminist magazine every month, the content of which she mainly authored herself. This book presents for the first time the socio-political activities of Pokrovskaja, her experiences in everyday work, and the limited biographical knowledge in a plausible context. The focus is on the possibilities and limitations of individual lifestyles available to women in Russia at the end of the 19th century. Additionally, it examines how Pokrovskaja's views developed.
