Using instruments of social diagnostics in practice is already a common routine for social workers in addiction support. However, these have so far been described only minimally in a systematic way. The book brings together tools that have been successfully applied in practice and can be used in various fields of social work within addiction support, such as black-box diagnostics, biographical timelines, or real-time monitoring. It also gives special consideration to a participatory understanding, where diagnoses are sometimes created collaboratively with clients. The various instruments are preceded by a review of the history of social diagnosis in addiction support, as well as a theoretical justification for social diagnostics in this field. The contributions come from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
