Val Camonica
German, Ingmar Braun, Günther Grünig, 2012Product details
With over 300,000 rock paintings in a relatively small geographical area, the Val Camonica is one of the richest regions in the world for rock art, having been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. The rock paintings from Val Camonica consist of engravings and predominantly carved representations. The oldest rock paintings from Val Camonica likely date back to the late Paleolithic period; however, the majority of the images come from the Neolithic, especially from the Bronze and Iron Ages, with some from the subsequent periods. There are numerous depictions of animals, humans, and scenes of various themes with a narrative character, including house forms and objects such as daggers and looms.
