Anneliese Buschmann came into contact with the liberal group Freies Hamburg around Friedrich Ablass during the National Socialist era through her husband, the merchant Julius Buschmann, who was involved in resistance against National Socialism. After World War II, she initially became active in the Committee of Former Political Prisoners, which in 1947 evolved into the Association of Victims of the Nazi Regime, and she was a member of its Hamburg state board for a time.
