Product details

Comparing cities to organisms has a long tradition, as both share similarities in their anatomy. However, since cities are brought to life by humans, they are less living beings and more urban entities with their own identity. This identity is based on the behavior, needs, and necessities of the residents. In other words, the anatomy of a city influences its identity. Certain urban structures, regardless of location, are utilized in very similar ways by people. The effects of these structures on the living environments of residents are illustrated and made comprehensible in this volume. Through elaborate graphics and detailed maps generated from satellite images, urban structures are compared across five different dimensional levels, and their impact on identity through lived experience is discussed. These range from the local, walkable neighborhoods.
