'Unverzagt und ohne Grauen' - Paul Gerhardt, der 'andere' Luther

Paul Gerhardt is, alongside Martin Luther, the most important hymn writer in the Protestant hymnal. His songs surpass those of the Reformer in popularity. Many of them have become quite folk-like. However, they would not be conceivable without the school of Lutheran Reformation, which he studied intensively, internalized, and ultimately upheld despite great personal sacrifices. Their wide dissemination is due to the fact that he does not offer dogma in verse form, but rather sings songs of living faith and deep trust in God. The authors of this volume examine the work of the hymn writer in relation to its roots in the theology of the Reformer and clarify how the insights of the Reformation have become a vibrant everyday faith.
