Wirksamkeit von ätherischen Ölen gegen Mücken

The aim of this study is to investigate the chemical composition and biological activity of the essential oils from two plants, Mentha pulegium and Laurus nobilis, in relation to three of the most common mosquito species in the Tebessa region: Culex pipiens, Culiseta longiareolata, and Aedes caspius. The chemical analysis of these oils using GC/MS revealed that monoterpene compounds were predominant. The conducted toxicological tests demonstrated the insecticidal effect of these oils against the three mosquito species, with mint being particularly effective compared to bay leaf. The biomarkers indicated a neurotoxic effect of the essential oils on these three mosquito species through the inhibition of specific AChE activity, as well as an induction of the detoxification system through an increase in GSTs and a decrease in GSH. Furthermore, treatment with these oils led to a disruption of growth and energy reserves in the individuals.
