Bankenliquidität und Finanzierung der Wirtschaft in der CEMAC-Zone

This book examines the relationship between bank liquidity and the financing of the economies of the six countries in the CEMAC zone from 1987 to 2007 through a panel analysis. Based on the model by Demirgüç-Kunt and Huizinga (1999), loans to the economy are the dependent variables and correspond to economic financing, while financial deepening, reserves, net foreign assets, inflation, and interest rates are the independent variables. The results show that of all the independent variables, only reserves and net foreign assets are significant. The former has a positive effect on economic financing, while the latter has a negative impact. Based on our findings, we recommend increasing reserves for banks by focusing on reserve accumulation. Additionally, there should be a threshold set by the BEAC for banks' net foreign assets, and finally, a community fund should be established, funded by the CEMAC member states.
