Der Junge und das Meer

On the shores of the Sea of Okhotsk live the Niwchen, a people of fishermen and seal hunters. The adolescent Kirisk is allowed to go out to sea for the first time and participate in a seal hunt. According to ancient tradition, he is to learn the craft of a hunter on this journey and become familiar with the sea. He is accompanied by his father, his uncle, and Organ, a wise elder. When the boat gets lost in thick fog, the journey turns into a life-threatening adventure. The three experienced men resort to the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the boy's survival: they give up their own lives.
