Summary:
In this book, the British math guru takes his readers on a journey through the realm of numbers - real, rational, irrational, complex; very, very small and infinitely large, fractals, logarithms, exponents, prime numbers, kiss numbers, and many more. Each chapter focuses on a specific number or group of numbers and explains why they are so interesting. "Every number has its own story to tell," it says in the foreword. Stewart tells these stories with enthusiasm and skillfully weaves them together, whether it's about the number Pi or, in the end, about secret codes, the Rubik's Cube, and Sudoku.
Additionally, readers learn a lot about the history of mathematics and the role it plays in our development. Ultimately, it was numbers, according to the author, that enabled humanity to pull itself out of the mud and reach for the stars.
