At Easter 1942, 22-year-old German Heinrich Heinen risks his life to rescue his Jewish fiancée, Edith Meyer, from the ghetto of Riga. Together, they flee towards Switzerland, hoping to find a future for their love. Their escape fails in Feldkirch, at the Swiss border. Heinen is convicted of racial disgrace but attempts again to save his fiancée and flee with her to Switzerland—this time, in vain once more. Alfons Dür vividly and compellingly recounts the true story of a tragic love during the Nazi era, using original documents and photographic evidence.
