A nameless woman recounts the final days of the war in the spring of 1945 and the invasion of the Red Army in Berlin. Unflinchingly honest and with a keen sensitivity to this historically significant, unprecedented time, the perhaps 30-year-old woman speaks of hunger, disgust, and fear. And of looting soldiers who brutally rape her—and countless other women. Yet instead of self-pity or hatred, an unshakeable will to survive grows within the young woman.
