What changes took place for the people of Brandenburg after the end of SED rule and the introduction of parliamentary democracy and a social market economy? What challenges and problems did politics and society face from 1990 onwards, and how were they discussed in public? Were there structures and experiences of dictatorship from the GDR era that continued to have an impact and shaped the way the past was dealt with? Fourteen articles in this volume deal with these and other questions. The spectrum of topics ranges from changes in political culture and social inequalities in the population, right-wing extremism and right-wing rock to the restructuring of the media, university and sports landscape and the work of the Treuhand. They will also discuss what has changed in museums and memorials and how exhibitions depict the transformation. Based on current research, the authors present new perspectives and unfamiliar views on a period that was as eventful as it was controversial and that continues to occupy us to this day.
