Product details

The mass creation of information and thus data is progressing continuously. According to a study by the School of Information Management and Systems, humanity generated new information amounting to a total of five exabytes in 2002. In 1999, this amount was only two exabytes. This trend is unlikely to reverse and is also reflected in business software. A SAP system in the terabyte range was still a rarity a few years ago; today, many companies operate a system of this size.

Given the increasing importance of data archiving in this context, this book focuses on the implementation of an archiving project in the SAP ERP system. It examines all facets of an archiving project, from project planning to post-implementation support, and also considers related topics such as tax aspects or database reorganization. The book is not intended to be a technical documentation but rather serves as an introduction to the topic.

Thus, this book is aimed at a relatively broad audience, from managers to employees who technically implement the archiving. For project leaders and managers who must decide on the implementation of such a project, the main focus is on the advantages and disadvantages of the project. For project managers and employees who carry out the archiving project, the approach and potential issues that may arise during the project are described. In addition to the general technical explanation of the implementation, there is a detailed technical documentation in the appendix that documents the project's implementation at arvato. This aspect of documenting what has been achieved at arvato holds significant importance in the book.
