The tradition of the congress volume of our joint scientific meeting will be continued this year. Political constraints have made it possible to present some important papers from Eastern Europe, which have further enriched our joint congress. 3-dimensional imaging by ultrasound has been brought into the realm of possibility for wider application through the first presentation of the corresponding equipment technology. Further focal points were double sonography and sonographic diagnostics of the musculoskeletal system. Lithotripsy of gallstones, pancreatic stones and kidney stones has already been established at our congress. Experiments in the field of tumor therapy were presented for the first time. We would like to thank the chairmen of the scientific sessions at our congress in Bregenz for their work.
