Ultras

They can no longer be ignored in the world of football. The organized fan groups of the ultras have become a staple in every larger stadium, with their loudness, colorful support, and defiance significantly shaping the identity of the clubs and the sport. Sixty years after their inception, the culture of the ultras continues to thrive among fans worldwide. While the Italian pioneers have faded over time, in Germany, Austria, and many other European countries, thousands of ultras have taken over the stands of the stadiums. Community and solidarity are the values offered by the ultras. With creativity and their rejection of the commercialization of football, as well as their criticism of state repression, they lead a radical youth movement that is unmatched outside the stadiums.
