Product details

All human beings are affected by becoming and passing away. Not only the things and beings that surround us, but above all we ourselves and our loved ones seem to be subject to this process. We celebrate birth and mourn death. One thinks of Hölderlin's late, enigmatic text &#x27,Das Werden im Vergehen&#x27, of Nietzsche's dictum that the form of being is to be imprinted on becoming, one perhaps remembers Bergson's book on creative becoming and certainly not least of all one's own view of becoming and passing away, which has something quite life-determining about it. Remarkably, however, there are almost no philosophical or scientific theories on this subject in the entire history of thought that try to explain to us how this works and what it is all about. Aristotle is a great exception rather at the beginning of all scientific development, but he has remained the only one with an objective theoretical claim and correspondingly well thought-out elaboration until Whitehead and Bergson in the 20th century. Even since then, there has been little new on the topic. Aristotle's highly interesting writing &#x27,On Becoming and Perishing&#x27, and conceptual development of this basic fact of nature has remained virtually unknown to this day. With this edition, a text is brought into focus that for a long time unjustly received little attention. Yet the question of becoming and passing away is one of the fundamental questions of all existence.
