Product details

Tara Selter is still trapped in a time loop – but she is no longer alone. The Norwegian sociologist Henry was at a conference in Düsseldorf when time also stood still for him. Despite their different perceptions of the repetitions and many aspects of life, Tara and Henry come together with a shared awareness of time and an appreciation for the moment. Henry becomes a much-needed friend and conversation partner for Tara; they seem to be the only people in the world; at least in their world, where everyone else is a mere extra experiencing the endlessly recurring November 18th for the first time. However, it soon becomes clear that there are others stuck on that November day as well. Together, they take up residence in an empty house in Bremen, from which they try to mend the cracks in the world that the constant repetition brings to light.

In "On the Calculation of Volume III," Solvej Balle strikes a more hopeful tone and presents the idea of a positive footprint as a counterbalance to Tara's previous fear of exhausting the world: the paralyzing loneliness gives way to the dynamics of a collective determined to escape the time loop – and until then, to make the best of it. An original, radically non-ideological commentary on resource consumption and individual responsibility towards humanity.
