Gian Domenico Borasio, one of Europe's leading palliative care physicians, has long advocated for end-of-life medicine that alleviates the suffering of those with life-threatening illnesses and improves their quality of life as well as that of their loved ones, rather than artificially prolonging the dying process. The organization and regulation of healthcare, including medical training and end-of-life patient care, varies from country to country.
