"A unique phenomenon: an essay, not yet a printed sheet large in volume, thrown lightly onto paper by its editor for a day's paper of the most modest presentation, lost and forgotten over a period of time and later brought to light more or less by chance, without attracting any particular attention, such a literary product today attracts the manifold interests of philosophers and artists, natural scientists and literary historians, poets and actors. This is what Helmut Sembdner wrote, and he points out that, despite its dissemination since then, "this strange essay has not lost a touch of a certain exclusivity, which its unprecedented, concise narrative style need not give rise to at all". The volume of the Insel-Bücherei, which has long been out of print, is now being reprinted; newly equipped with pen-and-ink drawings.
