Product details

The title of the book is meant literally: There is such a thing as a subject, but not as a stable, self-founded entity standing on solid ground. The subject after the (alleged) death of the subject is one of primordial self-transcendence. It is always already outside of itself, which is why it can be understood as a feverish instance of thinking that is excessive. It deviates from itself in order to be with itself. Its being-with-itself forbids any fixed identity. The image of thinking that corresponds to it depicts it as a contrapuntal figure. It is more a site of contradictions than a reconciled subjectivity. In grappling with the questions of the body, meaning, self-constitution through self-loss, as well as memory and cognitive opacity, in relation to Jacques Lacan, Etel Adnan, Theodor Adorno, Henri Michaux, Simone Weil, Gilles Deleuze, and many others, Marcus Steinweg outlines the panorama of his own thinking, which is as restless as it is resolute.
