"Trust in Public Finance and Service Delivery in Cameroon" offers a critical analysis of governance and public finance in Cameroon. The book examines the complex relationship between the quality of governance, characterized by widespread corruption, and citizens' perceptions regarding the mobilization of public revenues, which is often viewed as social injustice. It begins with an in-depth review of the foundations of public revenue mobilization as a form of contractual exchange between citizens and the state, within the context of the theory of a democratic developmental state. The analysis of the Cameroonian context since the democratic transition in 1990 illustrates how catastrophic governance can undermine the efforts of postcolonial states to strengthen citizens' trust in public institutions and gain legitimacy for their resource mobilization. The challenges of neopatrimonial governance and inadequate resource allocation lead citizens to question the legitimacy of taxation, which is expressed in the classic statement "No taxation without representation.".
