Treblinka

Samuel Willenberg describes the brutal everyday life in the Nazi extermination camp Treblinka in his book, where he was deported in 1943 at the age of 20. The traumatic experiences in the Treblinka camp and his involvement in the revolt, which he survived as one of the few insurgents, are only part of the book. The second part deals with life after his escape in occupied Poland. Through his vivid snapshots, the dual danger faced by Jews from the German killing machine and simultaneously from Polish nationalists becomes evident. The tragedy of these living conditions shapes Willenberg's entire biography. Although he fought alongside Polish partisans in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, his acknowledgment of his Jewish heritage also put him in danger here. However, Willenberg also tells of the help he received.
