Traumdeutung und empirische Traumforschung

Dreams and their significance have always fascinated people and often seem strangely meaningful. But does the dream have meaning? Does it represent a distortion of its actual contents or rather a comprehensive self-representation of the psyche's situation? Should the dream be understood as a neurotic symptom, or do dreams have a more creative and problem-solving potential? What do these different perspectives mean for clinical work with dreams? Based on empirical findings, the author evaluates the validity of various dream theories and presents a contemporary, research-based theory of dreams and their function. A focus is placed on the comparison between Freud and Jung, who hold opposing views on dreams and their significance for personality.
