The author goes in search of the origin of panic fears, depressions, psychoses or personality disorders. The concept of "attachment," the notion of "trauma," and the method of family constellation have proven helpful in this process. Psychological problems, according to the innovative basic idea, arise in relationship systems with their complex communication and interaction dynamics. Thus, a mother who has suffered trauma will pass this experience on to her child in one form or another. Family constellations - the process of using surrogates to represent relationship structures in families - show how early childhood relationship patterns continue in later relationships and may themselves trigger traumatization. This creates a fatal cycle from traumatization to attachment disorder to a serious relationship disorder.
