Transnationalism and migration

Product details
This issue engages with the concept of transnationalism within migration research in history and other cultural studies. Migration history often involves the crossing of national borders. At the same time, national historiography dominates our discipline. The concept of transnationalism emerges from a critique of a cultural understanding that focuses solely on territory and nation. The perspective on migration, originating from the ideology of the nation-state, has increasingly shifted towards a transnational viewpoint. This thematic focus highlights, on one hand, the transnational networks and social fields of migrants, and on the other hand, the transnational culture, which primarily relates to the flows of ideas and material goods.
