Product details

In the summer of 1986, a few months after the nuclear accident at Chernobyl, 20-year-old cousins Nicolas and Guy come across a junked Citröen Visa. They stuff it full of books that mean something to them but that they won't read - Michaux, Kafka and Diderot - put two sleeping bags and cigarettes on top ... and off they go on a wild journey to nowhere, the main thing: all the way. Far. Away. They cross northern Italy, Yugoslavia and Bulgaria on their way to Turkey and are confronted not only with the world behind the Iron Curtain and everyday life in rural Anatolia, but also with themselves and their childhood memories. As the story progresses, the journey becomes increasingly dark without the story or the protagonists losing their humour. With his two smoking heroes, Nicolas de Crécy brings the 1980s back to life in all their supposed carefree glory. He himself confesses: "I always have a problem with reality". In TRANSIT VISA, de Crécy mixes his true travel experiences, his detailed observations from back then, which in retrospect seem both nostalgic and bizarre, with fantastic elements and a great deal of self-irony.
