Grossmütter

A masterfully told, astonishing novel about two women from different continents who embark on an adventurous journey to break free from their seemingly unchangeable fate. This novel tells the story of two grandmothers, one from a poor Swiss farming family and the other from a relatively wealthy family in Cameroon. In an incredibly concise, chiseled language, it explores their childhoods, hopes, and disappointments. They marry, face humiliation and degradation. However, through these experiences, a tremendous anger builds up, which ultimately, with the help of their respective granddaughters, leads to their liberation.
