Transformation und Neustrukturierung des DDR-Rundfunks im Prozess der Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands

One of the most controversial chapters of German reunification is the restructuring of East Germany's state broadcasting and its integration into the public broadcasting system of the Federal Republic from the fall of 1989 until the end of 1991. Against the backdrop of the systemic change, the transition and dissolution of East German radio and television occurred simultaneously, along with the establishment of a unified German broadcasting framework. This complex process of winding down and reorganization required fundamental decisions and media policy adjustments. Taking into account the political and normative frameworks, the author analyzes who the key actors were in East and West Germany, what different motivations and goals they pursued, and what options and conflicts were present. The work reveals how the transformation of the broadcasting system was carried out and how the structural outcome of the broadcasting reorganization in East Germany came about. About the author: Sylvia Dietl studied political science and history at the University of Mannheim and earned her doctorate in communication and media studies at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. After her academic work at the Research Center for Social Developments under Prof. Dr. Rudolf Wildenmann, she worked as a freelance journalist, press spokesperson in public administration, and as a freelancer in the PR sector.
