Public institutions as white spaces?
German, Constantin Wagner, 2017Product details
What significance does the perceived ethnic affiliation of clients and patients have on their treatment in public institutions? Using a Swiss social welfare office as an example, Constantin Wagner examines how ethnic categorizations become practically relevant in organizational and actor actions, and how they reproduce racism. The whiteness, or the ethnic affiliation of the case-handling social workers, comes into focus. Additionally, the issue of diversity in the public service is viewed from a power- and racism-critical perspective that is not present in the mainstream.
