Research is tamed curiosity, methodically tamed greed. Research begins with specification: with entanglement in a particular material, in specific situations, involving collecting, organizing, and describing. Further steps include the formation of hypotheses and theories. What is the material in the case of the academic discipline of art education? What are its themes and questions? Through which institutional and media constellations is it defined? In a consciously broad spectrum of different institutional positions and forms of work, the contributions in this volume document the current state of the discussion on research in and on art education.

Torsten Meyer (Prof. Dr.) teaches art and its didactics with a focus on contemporary media culture at the University of Cologne. Andrea Sabisch (Dr. phil.), born in 1970, teaches art education and visual education at the University of Hamburg. She completed her doctorate on the relationship between recording and experience in research processes. Her research focuses include visual experience, educational theory, responsiveness, art education, contemporary art, qualitative research methods, and science criticism.
