Critical realism meets critical social theory

Critical Realism, as developed in the Anglo-Saxon world since the 1970s, not only anticipates many insights from contemporary realism debates but also elaborates on them for the social sciences. Beyond the modern nature/culture dualism, this approach proposes a non-deterministic conception of causality that enables a new understanding of social structures, cultural configurations, and actors, and connects with an ethics of the good life. This volume introduces Critical Realism to the German-speaking context for the first time and engages it in dialogue with local efforts towards a critical social theory.
