Tragfähigkeit als prognostischer Indikator für Rückenverletzungen im Krankenhaus

A prospective longitudinal study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of measuring lifting strength and epidemiological variables as predictors for future reports of work-related back injuries in a hospital population. Methods: A cohort of 1,011 hospital employees and new job applicants volunteered to participate in the study. Demographic and anthropometric data were recorded, and the dynamic lifting strength of the participants was assessed using a standardized protocol. The participants were then followed up for more than three years to capture the occurrence of back injuries. Descriptive statistics and survival analyses were performed, and a multivariate prediction model was created in the form of a stepwise forward regression. Results: Three participants reported a back injury due to the dynamic lifting test and sought medical attention. During the more than three years of follow-up, 35 participants reported a back injury. The results indicated that participants with higher lifting strength were at a significantly higher risk of sustaining back injuries compared to weaker participants.
