To Kill a Mockingbird

In the 1930s, deep in the southern United States, Atticus Finch is the defender of a black man accused of having assaulted a white girl. Through the eyes of Atticus's two children, Scout and Jem, Harper Lee reveals with much humor and great insight the irrational attitudes of the adult world regarding race and class in the 1930s. Atticus holds a mirror up to a town of hypocrisy and violence, striving to achieve the impossible for his client: justice. However, history cannot be easily swayed.
