The ear noise initially occurred acutely due to stress and overload and later transitioned into a chronic condition. Today, I only notice my tinnitus when it is very quiet around me or when someone reminds me of it. Approximately 4 million citizens in Germany suffer from chronic tinnitus. Tinnitus is the medical term for ear noises that only the affected person can perceive, without any external sound source existing. The ear noises can be persistent or intermittent, vary in volume, fluctuate, and manifest as buzzing, whistling, humming, roaring, hissing, or crackling, causing significant distress for those affected. The book outlines ways for individuals to learn how to live with it. It provides information on anatomical basics, possible causes for the development of tinnitus, and potential consequences.
