The dictionary contains approximately 10,000 lexemes and encompasses the most commonly used vocabulary of Tigrinya, the national language of Eritrea and one of the working languages of Ethiopia. It includes examples from original sources with German and English translations, including word combinations, idioms, proverbs, and riddles. About 400 of the listed words do not appear in any of the previously published dictionaries of this Semitic language. At the end, geographical names and common abbreviations are recorded. It is a frequency dictionary that covers various areas of modern language use in addition to the general vocabulary, including technical terms, dialect words, and taboo words. Numerous word- and form-building syllables as well as grammatical constructions with clear explanations are also included. Thanks to the complex structure of the entries, the dictionary advantageously differs from previously known counterparts. It is aimed at speakers of all three languages and is suitable for reading and translating texts of moderate difficulty. It will be beneficial for those learning or teaching the respective language, engaging with Tigrinya studies, Semitics, typology, translation, and comparative linguistics, or reading Tigrinya literature in the original.
